How the Biology template answers the institutional directive
The supplied Web Operations Priorities for Enrollment brief, September 2026, calls for recruitment pages that demonstrate what students do, who invests in them, and where their education can lead. This page maps those requirements to the revised prototype and distinguishes built design from evidence and operational work still needed.
Assessment: the template supports the directive’s program-page structure, with partial evidence readiness. It now includes concrete research examples, a named faculty feature, a dated individual graduate destination, a discipline-specific faith example, and a live on-page Slate inquiry. Launch still depends on academic confirmation, permissions, Slate submission/routing validation, current facts, and an editorial review process.
This is a general undergraduate program page. It is one design pilot; it does not complete the directive’s homepage, campaign, parent-path, four-to-six-program selection, or 90-day rollout work.
Program-page requirements
| Directive requirement | Where the design responds | Evidence and implementation status | What remains before launch |
|---|---|---|---|
| First screen Name the field, distinct opportunity, real imagery, and visit or inquiry action. | Biology H1, BA/BS and campus facts, faculty-guided research introduction, original University lab photography, visit action and on-page inquiry link. | Design implemented. The first screen names the academic opportunity and an action. The hero is a proposed adaptation of the documented standard hero. | Approve the headline/intro, degree labels, crop, image permissions, and Enrollment’s preferred primary conversion. |
| What you will do Specific research or applied experiences; explain eligibility. | Experience section features faculty research, FISH, FIWH, and a dated stream/invasive-species research example. | Published examples included. The Summer 2025 magazine feature supports named projects. A visible caveat explains that availability and selection vary. | Confirm which projects are active, prerequisites, selection steps, timing, and costs. A broad caveat does not replace opportunity-specific eligibility. |
| Who will invest in you Named mentor and a concrete teaching or guidance example. | Dr. Dan Kuebler’s feature summarizes the undergraduate regenerative-medicine work described in his faculty profile; the research section also names Haenni and Payne. | Partial evidence. Named faculty and actual research replace generic mentoring language. The content does not yet show a specific student’s change resulting from mentoring. | Add an approved student–mentor example: what the faculty member did, what the student did, and what changed. |
| Where it can lead Verified graduates, dated destinations, distinguish examples from rates. | Graduate pathway feature: Melody Vetrovec ’23, research involvement, and Cornell lab-manager role reported in Summer 2025. Career and further-study directions remain visible. | Dated historical example included. It is explicitly not a placement rate or a statement of current employment. Undated legacy percentages are withheld. | Confirm degree/program, permissions and destination currency. Add aggregate rates only with cohort, denominator, period, and source. |
| How faith shapes the field A person explains a consequence in the discipline. | Faith section identifies Dr. Kyle McKenna’s reported approach to antibody-test materials, with a link to his explanation. | Specific published practice included. The example is attributed and dated, alongside proposed introductory copy. It shows a scientific decision shaped by Catholic ethics. | Approve reuse and wording; consider a verified short first-person quote or video. Confirm scientific context with the academic unit. |
| Practical next steps Requirements, support, cost guidance, persistent visit/counselor path. | Official catalog link, interest explorer, sticky section menu, mobile visit/inquiry actions, admissions/aid/transfer/support accordions, and embedded Slate inquiry form. | Design and embed implemented; submission workflow untested. The supplied shortened RFI is embedded using Slate’s script method inside an isolated frame. BA/BS selection passes an exact option GUID to the hidden anticipated-major field. The form submits directly to Slate; this prototype stores no inquiry data. | Validate a controlled submission in Slate, including matching, hidden-major capture, routing, consent, confirmation and attribution. Both BA and BS prefills were checked in returned form HTML: the correct option is selected and the field is hidden/read-only. No test inquiry has been submitted. Confirm current affordability links. |
| High-achieving and public-university comparison prospects Show demanding work, faculty access, real roles, and integrated formation. | Research subject matter, named faculty and dated graduate example show the intended opportunity. Faith and academic work appear together. | Partial coverage. Concrete academic substance is present, but individual project roles and current access are not fully packaged. No unsupported comparison claims are made. | Add a named student’s contribution, deliverable, academic challenge and result. Tailor campaign versions to each audience after approval. |
Broader directive requirements
| Requirement | How this pilot supports it | Remaining work |
|---|---|---|
| Common template across four to six pilot programs | Reusable identity, experience, mentor, faith, outcome, curriculum and inquiry sections can be populated per program. | Enrollment selects programs using inquiry/application/yield gaps, demand, priorities and available evidence. Implement shared production fields, metadata and program-specific copy. |
| Connected homepage and parent decision path | The program page offers clear links to aid, scholarships, support, safety, visits and related programs. | Audit and test inbound homepage/program-finder routes and the full parent journey. This pilot does not redesign those pages. |
| Audience-specific campaign pages with one primary next step | The experience, proof and inquiry modules can be reused in a focused campaign layout. | Create ad-matched variants, choose one primary conversion, set distinct URLs and attribution, and test the offer/form length. The general program page retains several useful routes. |
| Reusable approved proof records | A canonical magazine article supplies relevant research, faith and graduate-path examples; the prototype shows where they belong. | Store approved 40–70-word summaries, quotes, dates, rights, audience/stage, canonical URLs, owner and next review date. Connect Stories CPT records by program in ACF. |
| Intake, production and review ownership | Review notes flag approval needs and sources. | Use the existing Microsoft Form/List and Story Library statuses; connect selected work to Wrike. Writer prepares, academic unit verifies, Enrollment checks relevance, Web Content Strategist owns placement and refresh. |
| Freshness and evidence integrity | Graduate evidence is dated and differentiated from aggregate results. Unverified legacy percentages and unrelated alumni are not used as biology proof. | Assign reviewers and next-review dates. Recheck volatile claims at least annually and before campaigns; update historical labels and changed permissions promptly. |
| Meaningful measurement | The proposed journey includes identifiable program-to-visit and program-to-inquiry actions. | Establish baselines, configure consent-aware events and Slate attribution, and compare qualified inquiries/visits by program and source. Also track approved-proof coverage, story reuse and stale-claim corrections. |
| 90-day rollout and refinement | This prototype supports the template-design portion of the first pilot. | Audit/baseline and select pilots; build/review production pages and one campaign variant; then user-test, refine, expand and start the review calendar. No enrollment uplift is established by the prototype. |
How the website documentation shaped this revision
- Hero: one clear program H1, thin divider, supporting line and two short actions. The split arch is an intentional campaign variation of the documented standard hero, rather than a claim of identical markup.
- Typography: Bennet Banner for H1/H2; Objektiv Mk3, with fallbacks, for body copy and subordinate headings. The documentation’s root-h2 and root-h3 conventions are represented.
- Buttons: the fran-btn-square-reg pattern, modest corners, readable labels and explicit hover/focus states. Retired root-lowercase-btn styling is not used.
- Layout: content-heavy sections use restrained widths and the documentation’s approximate 85% content-width convention. Production should reuse site-content-box/site-para-box and the shared grid where appropriate.
- Images: the hero retains the approved arch; the mentor portrait adds the documented echoed-arch treatment. The Proof Stories Library’s transparent circular SVG now follows the Word on Fire homepage’s large, lower-right, cropped text-ring treatment and rotates with page scroll. It stays below faces, is static for reduced-motion preferences, and is hidden at 900px and below.
- Navigation and disclosures: the visual pattern follows the section-navigation and accordion references. This standalone prototype uses real anchor links and native details/summary controls for keyboard access. Production integration must reconcile the shared franTabMenu/header script and accordion styles.
Color specification needs an explicit production decision: the manual lists green #21412A and teal #349789; the web documentation uses green #21421A and web teal #389789, and explicitly describes its teal adjustment. This prototype keeps the palette you supplied from the manual. The difference should be resolved with the web team before connecting shared production CSS. Other palette colors remain #07647D, #C1986C, #F5AF50 and #FDF0DF; section headings also use documented web red #8B3A19.
Circular typography reference
The Word on Fire homepage was reviewed for placement, scale and motion: its circular text sits at the hero’s lower-right boundary and turns with scroll. This template adapts that interaction using Franciscan’s own Live the Truth text, SVG geometry, palette and imagery; it does not reuse Word on Fire’s artwork or slogan. The circle is decorative and excluded from assistive reading order.
Slate integration validation
The native Slate embed is loaded only after a BA/BS choice. The form lives in an isolated same-origin frame to limit stylesheet conflicts and provide a fresh single-form document when the degree changes. Frame height follows the rendered content. A direct prefilled Slate link remains available if embedding fails. Query strings from the hosting page are not forwarded indiscriminately; campaign attribution should use approved fields and mapping.
For a future degree-specific WordPress page, configure the Slate major GUID in ACF and load that form directly without the degree chooser. On this combined BA/BS page, the chooser avoids silently recording the wrong degree. A valid “undecided Biology” value was not present among the supplied form’s biology options, so none was invented.

The prototype reorganizes and condenses program material and introduces proposed copy. Reconcile it with the Carnegie-approved copy inventory and audit recommendations before migration. The supplied form differs from the software-engineering reference, which currently embeds aa140dde-8856-4e5a-90c4-0b577f637f8e. This page uses c8b3b8fa-3c0d-4b9a-b8d2-32db4945b268 as requested. Its source lists Biology BA as 3c23e555-63c3-40aa-97d1-749509b5ced5 and Biology BS as 32a4fa84-7d25-45ac-ad47-b162ca4ead9a. These values are passed as sys:field:anticipated_major and are not inferred from the page title. No comparative conversion performance, full production accessibility conformance, or enrollment effect has been established. No test inquiry was submitted and no Slate configuration was changed.
