A new program-page template using the existing Biology copy
The purpose of this pilot is to improve structure, usability and visual consistency while preserving current undergraduate program content until in-house rewriting is ready. The live Software Engineering page supplies the main visual component reference. The Live the Truth manual and Figma library guide presentation. A separate Biology in Action story module supplements the existing narrative at the user’s request.
Copy preservation is the current phase. All five main descriptive paragraphs and all four program-highlight passages from the existing Biology page are retained. Both destination/job lists are retained in full. Paragraphs are moved into the new components; headings and functional interface text are distinguished from program narrative. A future in-house rewrite is a separate editorial phase.
Copy inventory
| Existing content | New location | Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Program overview and preparation | Overview beside the inquiry panel | Both paragraphs retained, including the five tracks, bioinformatics/DNA explanation, small classes and graduate preparation. |
| Discover God’s design | Overview | Both paragraphs retained, including faculty research and the published research-participation figure. |
| Applied learning | Explore More | Full passage retained, including Florida Keys/Tropical Marine Biology, Human Embryology, internships and field experiences. |
| Catholic faith in action | Explore More | Full passage retained, including medical missions, shadowing, surgeries and the ethical foundation. |
| Financial aid and scholarships | Dedicated aid section | Existing wording retained with its cost/tuition link. |
| Faculty mentoring | Faculty section | Full passage and published 14:1 ratio retained; department link is a template navigation element. |
| Careers and outcomes | Careers section | Full paragraph, all six further-study subjects and all five job titles retained. |
| Related programs | Related-program links | Pre-professional programs and the two chemistry degree labels restored. |
| Legacy alumni feed / new faculty grid | Alumni feed omitted; Biology roster added | The legacy alumni feed is not migrated because it includes cross-discipline records. The faculty module now uses the current Biology department roster: seven faculty plus laboratory manager Denise Lombard. |
How the brand applies now
Brand implementation is primarily visual: the university logo, manual palette, Bennet/Objektiv typography, full-width centered photo hero, blue in-page menu, green inquiry panel, blue Quick Facts, arched images, gold accordion rules and restrained circular typography. The circle hides at ≤900px and does not animate under reduced-motion preferences.
New promotional headlines from the previous draft have been removed from the core narrative. The original Catholic identity, service, formation and mentoring language remains. New headings such as “Biology Admissions Process” and degree-selector labels serve navigation or interaction; they are template interface copy. The in-house rewrite can later introduce the approved admissions soundbites, supporting messages and program-specific proof through an explicit editorial review.
Institutional directive: structure now, evidence development later
| Directive requirement | Current template response | Remaining editorial work |
|---|---|---|
| First screen and next action | Program title, real lab photo, inquiry button, section navigation and near-top Slate form. | Approve production image/crop and conversion priority. A distinctive opportunity headline belongs to the later copy phase. |
| What students do | Existing research, course, fieldwork, internship and medical-service passages, plus dated research story cards. | Confirm current availability, eligibility and selection; add named student roles and dated results. |
| Who invests in students | Existing faculty-mentoring copy, department route and Curt McGovern’s research card. | The Curt McGovern/Dr. Kyle McKenna card now adds a named student, mentor and project role. An expanded first-person mentoring account can provide further depth. |
| Where it leads | Existing careers paragraph and destination/job lists. | Validate legacy outcome figures and add approved dated graduate evidence. Do not treat old percentages as newly verified. |
| Faith shaping the discipline | Existing Discover God’s design and Catholic faith in action passages, ethical cell-line research and Purposeful Lab. | Add an approved first-person example of a specific disciplinary decision or practice. |
| Practical next steps | Catalog, admissions, aid, scholarships, support, visit and inquiry paths. | Validate the live Slate submission, matching, major capture, routing, confirmation, consent and attribution. |
This template supports one part of the directive. It does not complete the broader homepage, parent journey, campaign variants, proof publishing process, pilot selection or 90-day rollout. Visual and structural implementation does not establish an enrollment effect.
Currency and evidence review
The existing 70% research-participation claim, 90% medical-school acceptance statement and 14:1 ratio are carried over as existing copy, not revalidated facts. Context notes flag the two outcome figures on the page; review notes flag all three. Confirm source, scope, cohort, denominator and reporting period before production use. Confirm the current status of courses, travel, internships, shadowing and service opportunities as well.
Supplemental proof alongside the existing copy
The separate Biology in Action module now includes the requested Curt McGovern research story, the Cutting-edge Research in the Life Sciences feature, and Purposeful Lab. A Faith & Reason callout and a link to the latest Proof Stories Library follow the three-card row. Other graduate and faculty proof candidates remain separate from migrated copy for future editorial consideration.
- Cutting-Edge Research in the Life Sciences, Michael Schmiesing, Summer 2025: named fieldwork and scientific practice, plus Melody Vetrovec ’23’s historically reported Cornell role.
- Dr. Dan Kuebler’s faculty profile: undergraduate regenerative-medicine research; a potential named-mentor feature still needs a student’s specific experience.
Story grid and sources
The module shows three equal-height cards across on desktop, two on tablet and one on mobile. Each entire card is a native link. Images use a consistent 16:9 frame; Purposeful Lab uses its official white series artwork on a blue background. External video is not loaded until a visitor follows the series link.
The latest Proof Stories Library was inspected with Sciences and Pre-Health selected. The Curt McGovern record uses the supplied headline and its current thumbnail; its description was checked against the canonical magazine article. Broad academic-area results also include other programs, so production story selection should use Biology program relationships as well as academic area. The library link opens its Discover section; it does not claim to apply a filter automatically.
- Curt McGovern, Maura Roan McKeegan, Summer 2026; Proof Stories Library title: “Biology student undertakes research on ethical cell-line alternatives.”
- Purposeful Lab, produced by Franciscan University, hosted by Dr. Dan Kuebler.
Visual rhythm and faculty grid
The user-supplied screenshots guide two additional components: a full-width green financial-aid band with an offset rectangular photo, and a photo-backed career-support section with a gold-topped white panel. Biology/science photography replaces the MBA stock imagery, and the existing aid paragraph is preserved. Career-resource links are utility navigation, not new program promises. Cream experience and curriculum bands break up successive white rows; the closing action band uses blue.
The faculty grid follows the Software Engineering cards: portrait, green caption, white name and role, rounded corners, subtle shadow and a clickable whole card. The live Biology department roster reviewed November 4, 2026 supplies seven faculty and one laboratory manager. Eight cards form four columns on wide screens, three at intermediate widths, two on tablets and one on narrow phones. The heading identifies Faculty and Staff so the laboratory-manager role is accurately represented.
Slate and template integration
The supplied form c8b3b8fa-3c0d-4b9a-b8d2-32db4945b268 loads after a BA/BS selection. BA passes 3c23e555-63c3-40aa-97d1-749509b5ced5; BS passes 32a4fa84-7d25-45ac-ad47-b162ca4ead9a as the anticipated-major option. Hidden/read-only configuration remains in Slate. Changing degrees reloads the form and clears input, with an advance warning. No test inquiry has been submitted.
The production template should use the shared university header/footer and approved WordPress/ACF fields. The manual green #21412A is retained here; reconcile it with the web documentation’s #21421A for shared production tokens. Admissions, curriculum and support controls contain functional helper copy rather than new Biology marketing narrative.
